Degradation Description
The Spoonville Dam is a 128-foot long, 25-foot high concrete dam that lies on the East Granby - Bloomfield border. This former hydro-electric dam, now owned by Northeast Utilities, has been essentially a remnant dam since 1955, when it was partially breached during major flooding from back to back hurricane strikes - Hurricane Connie and Hurricane Diane. Although the dam is beached, it is still a barrier to fish passage as migrating fish cannot pass by with such a high downstream flow velocity created by the breach.
