Degradation Description
A pair of dams in the Farm River block the upstream passage of anadromous fish. The first, a 3-foot high water company dam, was built in 1911 in order to divert water to the Lake Saltonstall water supply reservoir. The South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority operates the diversion as needed to maintain adequate water supply to serve its customers while also optimizing water quality. Fish can get over the diversion dam during periods of high water but at most flows it is a barrier to fish migration. The second, Page's Millpond Dam, is a privately-owned residential dam.
