Degradation Description
A 3/4 acre parcel of land abutting Sasco Brook and across the street from Southport Beach was listed for sale at $799,000. The parcel was zoned as a buildable vacant lot and the possibility of a large new home being built on this site was very real.
Project Description
A high-ranking official with the EPA's Long Island Sound Office noticed that this lot was for sale and mentioned it to a representative of the Aspetuck Land Trust to see if they were interested in buying and preserving this waterfront property. The land trust approached the seller and an agreement was reached which included a much lower selling price as well as a generous gift of prime real estate.
